Non-Surgical Neck Tightening in Oakville

Neck tightening without surgery may help when the skin of your neck and under your chin has loosened mildly, and Sofwave is our main option for that. A loose looking neck has three common causes, though, loose skin, muscle bands and fullness from fat, and each one calls for a different approach.

We start by working out which is driving your concern, point you to the treatment that fits, and tell you plainly when significant laxity means surgery is the better answer.

What Causes a Loose or Turkey Neck?

Skin, muscle and fat, often in combination.

People describe the same thing in many ways: a turkey neck, crepey neck skin, loose skin under the chin, or a jawline that no longer meets the neck cleanly. What they are seeing usually comes from one or more of these:

  • Skin that has softened or turned crepey across the front of the neck
  • Vertical bands from the platysma, a broad, thin muscle in the neck
  • Fullness under the chin caused by fat rather than loose skin
  • Loose, hanging skin or tissue that has clearly descended

Most necks show more than one of these, and the mix matters more than the label. A treatment aimed at skin will not relax a muscle band, and a muscle treatment will not tighten crepey skin. That is why the first step at our clinic is an assessment, not a booking for a named treatment.

Neck treatment plans at our clinic are made under the medical direction of Dr. Andrea Garcia, MD CCFP.

Sofwave Neck Tightening for Loose Skin

For mild to moderate laxity under the chin and across the neck.

Where the main issue is skin that has lost some firmness, Sofwave skin tightening is the treatment we most often discuss. It delivers ultrasound energy into the mid-dermis, about 1.5 mm below the surface, while the surface is cooled. That prompts your skin to lay down new collagen, so the change builds gradually over weeks to months rather than appearing on the day.

The neck and under-chin area has some of the more encouraging published data. In a 2026 study of 42 people treated once, 83.3% improved in laxity under the chin and at the neck at three months. The same study found much smaller effects elsewhere, with only 28.6% showing brow elevation, so in that study the neck and under-chin area responded more consistently than the brow. Studies suggest a real benefit for many people, and results still vary from person to person.

Many people have one treatment, and there is generally no downtime beyond mild, temporary redness. See our Sofwave results timeline for what to expect and when, or read how Sofwave compares with other skin tightening devices. Our clinic also offers RF Skin Tightening, a radiofrequency treatment, and whether it suits your neck is something your provider can discuss.

Neck Bands and Fullness Under the Chin

Two causes that skin tightening does not treat.

Vertical neck bands come from the platysma muscle. Over time it can become more prominent and pull downward on the jaw and neck. A Nefertiti neck lift uses small amounts of Botox or Dysport along the jawline and neck bands to relax that pull, which can soften the bands in suitable candidates. Lin Nickel, our Advanced Aesthetic Nurse Injector, has more than 10 years of experience and is certified through Allergan (Botox) and Galderma (Dysport).

Fullness under the chin is a different matter again. If it is caused by fat rather than loose skin, Sofwave is not the answer. It targets the skin, not the fat beneath, and in one study a trend toward reduced volume under the jaw was not statistically significant. If the fullness is caused by fat rather than loose skin, your provider can talk you through other options at consultation.

Where early softening under the chin comes with tissue that has begun to descend, a thread lift may reposition it modestly using dissolvable threads. Like everything on this page, it suits mild to moderate change, not heavy laxity.

When Surgery Is the Better Answer for Your Neck

Significant laxity needs a surgical opinion.

Search for a non surgical neck lift and you will find plenty of promises. The realistic position is narrower. No non-invasive treatment removes excess skin, and none repositions tissue that has clearly dropped. If loose, hanging skin is your main concern, a surgical opinion is the better next step, and we will tell you so rather than book a treatment that cannot meet your expectations.

That is not a failure of the consultation. Knowing that a treatment will not work saves you money, time and disappointment. Some people with moderate change choose to start non-surgically and review later; others go straight to a surgical consultation. Either is a reasonable choice when it is made with realistic information.

If you do choose surgery, our clinic also offers private recovery nursing after cosmetic surgery. For non-surgical options, browse our full range of non-invasive treatments, and see our post-treatment care page for Botox, Dysport and thread lift aftercare. For Sofwave, your provider gives you aftercare for your treatment.

Recovery After Neck Treatment

What the days after treatment generally look like.

Recovery depends on which treatment suits your neck. Sofwave is non-invasive and generally involves no downtime, with mild redness or occasional swelling that usually settles quickly. Most people return to their day straight away.

A Nefertiti neck lift changes gradually, with the first difference often noticed within a few days and the full effect settling at around two weeks. A thread lift generally brings some swelling and bruising for the first few days. Your provider will give you guidance specific to your plan, and results vary from person to person.

Neck Tightening: Common Questions

Still deciding? These are the questions we hear most.

If your question is not answered here, our team is happy to help, and a consultation gives the clearest answer.

What actually causes a loose or turkey neck?
Usually a combination of three things: skin that has softened and lost firmness, vertical bands from the platysma muscle, and fullness from fat under the chin. Significant laxity, where there is excess skin, is a separate picture. Working out which one drives your concern decides which treatment, if any, is likely to help.
Can loose neck skin be tightened without surgery?
When laxity is mild to moderate, it may be. Sofwave delivers ultrasound energy into the mid-dermis to stimulate new collagen, and change generally appears gradually over weeks to months. It cannot remove excess skin, so where the neck is significantly loose, a non-surgical treatment is unlikely to satisfy.
Is Sofwave or a Nefertiti neck lift better for my neck?
They treat different causes. Sofwave works on skin quality and mild laxity. A Nefertiti neck lift uses Botox or Dysport to relax the platysma muscle, which can soften vertical neck bands in suitable candidates. Some people have both concerns, and your provider will tell you which, if either, suits you.
Will neck tightening get rid of a double chin?
Not usually. Sofwave targets the skin rather than the fat beneath it, and in one study a trend toward reduced volume under the jaw was not statistically significant. If fullness under your chin is caused by fat, your provider can discuss other options at consultation.
How many sessions does neck tightening take?
It depends on the treatment. For Sofwave, often one, and your provider will advise whether more may help. A Nefertiti neck lift generally lasts around three to four months before muscle activity returns, when it can be repeated. The number of sessions in your plan is set at consultation.
When is surgery the better option for the neck?
When there is loose, hanging skin or tissue that has clearly descended, a surgical opinion is the better next step. No non-invasive treatment removes excess skin or repositions tissue that has dropped. We will tell you if that is where you are rather than book a treatment that cannot help.
