Sofwave Results: What to Expect and When

Sofwave results appear gradually. Most of the change develops over weeks to months as your skin builds new collagen, and it is often assessed around three months after treatment rather than on the day. Many people have one treatment, results vary from person to person, and they are not permanent.

This page walks through the timeline, what the published studies found, including the people who saw little change, and how to judge your own outcome fairly.

Your Sofwave Results Timeline

From the day of treatment to around three months and beyond.

  1. The day of treatmentSome people notice a subtle early tightening. Mild redness or warmth is common and usually settles quickly. This is not your result.
  2. The first two weeksYour skin generally looks much as it did before. The repair response is under way beneath the surface, but collagen remodelling is slow.
  3. Weeks four to twelveChange, when it comes, tends to build gradually through this period as new collagen forms and matures.
  4. Around three monthsStudies commonly assess results at this point, and it is a sensible time for a review with your provider.
  5. Beyond three monthsSome studies followed participants to six or nine months. Your skin continues to age, so maintenance is considered case by case.

Because the change is slow, memory is an unreliable judge. A useful habit is to take your own photographs in the same light and at the same angle before treatment and again around three months later. Your provider gives you aftercare for your Sofwave treatment, and our general aftercare guidance for our in-clinic treatments covers several of our other treatments. If you are still deciding whether to have it at all, start with our Sofwave treatment in Oakville page.

What the Studies Actually Found

Encouraging on average, with real exceptions.

Here is what the published research reports, including the less flattering parts.

In the main face and neck study, 58 people completed a single treatment and were assessed at 12 weeks. Investigators rated 88% as improved, and 72% of participants noticed improvement themselves. That second figure matters, because it means more than one in four did not report an improvement. The study included a wide range of skin tones, and no device-related adverse events were reported.

A 2026 study of 42 people treated once on the face, neck and under the chin found that 83.3% improved in laxity under the chin and at the neck at three months. Only 28.6% showed brow elevation, however, and 38.1% showed wrinkle improvement. A separate lower face study of 36 people reported a statistically significant reduction in the depth of the nasolabial folds and marionette lines at one and three months, with no further change between those two points.

Two more findings help set expectations. In a study of 34 people treated once, measured skin contraction was about 2 mm at 8 and 24 weeks, a small, gradual change rather than a dramatic lift. In the 2026 study of 42 people, wrinkle and elastosis improvement was still present at nine months in 12.8% of participants, which is one reason we do not promise a fixed duration.

Studies suggest a real average benefit, most consistent in one study under the chin and at the neck, alongside a meaningful share who see little change. These are study results, not predictions for you.

Why Sofwave Results Vary From Person to Person

Your starting point matters as much as the treatment.

Sofwave works by prompting your own collagen, so the result depends on your biology as much as on the device. The factors that most often shape an outcome include:

  • The degree of laxity, with mild to moderate generally responding best
  • Your starting skin quality and firmness
  • The area treated, since response differs by area
  • Your age and general health
  • How your own collagen responds over the following months

Where laxity is significant, or there is excess skin, no amount of collagen stimulation is likely to satisfy, and a surgical opinion is the better next step. If your concern is mainly the neck, our guide to neck tightening without surgery explains the different causes, and our page on treating early jowls does the same for the jawline.

Sofwave plans at our clinic are made under the medical direction of Dr. Andrea Garcia, MD CCFP, and we will tell you at consultation if Sofwave is unlikely to help.

How Many Sessions, and How Long Results May Last

Often one treatment, with maintenance considered later.

The main face and neck study used a single treatment, and one treatment is often the starting point. A smaller study of 15 people aged 40 to 69 used two treatments and reported improvement at three and six months. Your provider will tell you whether a second treatment is likely to be worthwhile for you, rather than assuming it.

On longevity, candour matters. Peer-reviewed follow-up mostly stops between three and nine months, so there is no solid basis for promising a specific number of months. Results are not permanent, because your skin continues to age after treatment. Some people choose to consider maintenance later, and that decision is made with your provider when the time comes.

If you are weighing Sofwave against other devices before deciding, our page on how Sofwave compares with other skin tightening options sets out the differences in depth and energy. You can also explore our wider range of non-invasive treatments.

Recovery While You Wait for Results

Generally no downtime, and a little patience.

Sofwave is non-invasive, so recovery is generally uneventful. In one study, temporary redness was seen in about half of participants and mild swelling in a small minority, and the main trials reported no device-related serious adverse events. Most people return to work and their usual routine the same day.

The harder part is waiting. The first few weeks can feel as though nothing has happened, and that is expected. Judge your result at the point your provider suggests, not at two weeks, and compare like with like.

Sofwave Results: Common Questions

Still deciding? These are the questions we hear most.

If your question is not answered here, our team is happy to help, and a consultation gives the clearest answer.

When will I see results from Sofwave?
Gradually. Most change develops over weeks to months as new collagen forms, and results are often assessed around three months after treatment. Some people notice a subtle tightening on the day, but that is not the final result, so judging your outcome at two weeks can mislead you.
How long do Sofwave results last?
Results vary and are not permanent. Published studies mostly followed participants for three to nine months, and your skin continues to age after treatment, so we do not promise a set number of months. Your provider can discuss whether and when a maintenance treatment may be worth considering.
How many Sofwave treatments will I need?
Often one. The main published face and neck study used a single treatment, and some smaller studies used two. Your provider will advise at consultation whether more than one treatment may help in your case, based on your skin and how it responds.
Does Sofwave work for everyone?
No. In the main published face and neck study of 58 people, 72% of participants noticed improvement themselves, which means some did not. Response depends on your skin quality, the degree of laxity, the area treated and how your own collagen responds. Sofwave suits mild to moderate laxity, not significant sagging.
Will Sofwave make me lose volume or fat in my face?
Sofwave targets the mid-dermis, about 1.5 mm below the surface, rather than the fat beneath it. One study noted a trend toward reduced volume under the jaw, but it was not statistically significant. Sofwave should not be thought of as a fat reduction treatment.
Can I combine Sofwave with other treatments to maintain results?
Sometimes. Sofwave works on skin firmness, while other treatments address different things, such as volume, hydration or muscle activity. Whether combining makes sense, and in what order, is decided at consultation based on your skin and your goals.
